Water Damage Restoration

“Today I woke up to every homeowner’s nightmare…a flooded downstairs. I called them very early in the morning. They responded efficiently and quickly. They were very professional and dealing with them was easy.” Jenn Heath

Understanding the Drying Process

We want you to have peace of mind about the drying and restoration process. So that you know what it takes to restore your water damaged home as quickly as possible, we have divided the process into three phases:

How long will this take? Click here for a detail!  https://servicemasteranchorage.com/2018/10/18/how-long-is-this-going-to-take/

How much will this cost? Click here for a detail! https://servicemasteranchorage.com/2016/03/29/how-much-will-this-flood-or-fire-in-my-home-cost-me/

PHASE I

For your protection, you will need to sign a Statement of Authorization upon our arrival before we begin working on your home. A trained technician will begin by determining if your floor is salvageable and if the flooring can be dried in place. If the pad cannot be dried in place, we will detach the carpet from the tack strip and remove the wet padding to expedite the drying process. A pad sample will be taken back to our office to be matched and ordered for the reinstallation. If your carpet is deemed unsalvageable, the technician may advise removing both the pad and the carpet.

PHASE II

We will set up high-velocity air movers and dehumidifiers in your home to extract as much water as possible, drying both your flooring (carpet, laminate, etc.) and the subfloor. Depending on the nature of the water damage, your carpet may need to be treated to inhibit microbial growth.

PHASE III

The equipment will remain in your home for a designated amount of time to ensure proper drying. Depending on the extent of the water damage, it could take between 3-4 days for your home to dry. It will be necessary for us to have access to your home during business hours throughout the drying process in order to properly monitor the temperature, humidity and our equipment. We look forward to working with you to determine your preferred method for reentry so we can properly monitor the drying process.

What to Do While You Wait for Us

We are so glad that you called for professional help. The sooner we are able to remove water from your home, the better we are able to prevent damage from water and mold growth, which can begin within hours. Here are some things you can do to get the process started:

  • Remove as much water as possible by mopping and blotting.
  • Remove wet area rugs or other floor coverings that are not permanently attached. Do not attempt to start removing your wall-to-wall carpet.
  • Lift draperies off the floor, looping them through a coat hanger and placing the hanger on the drapery rod.
  • Wipe furniture, prop-up wet furniture cushions for even drying, and place aluminum foil under furniture legs.
  • Move photos, paintings and art objects to a safe, dry location.
  • Do not remove books from shelves. Allowing books to dry open causes the pages to warp. Wait for a restoration professional to remove the books and begin a specialized drying process.
  • Open drawers, closets and cabinet doors to enhance drying.

What NOT to Do While You Wait

  • Do not enter a room with standing water until electricity has been turned off.
  • Do not use electrical appliances while on wet carpet or flooring.
  • Do not use a regular household vacuum to remove water.
  • Do not lift tacked-down carpet without professional help.
  • Do not disturb visible mold.
